Hi.

Welcome to malshag.org, the chronicles of our growing family consisting of several humans, six dogs, two cats, some reptiles and a gay rhino.

le petit enfant

Yesterday we went to the fetal health center to get the end-of-first-trimester sonogram.

The baby is apparently quite healthy, and we heard and saw the heartbeat again.

We have decided we are going to find out the sex, which is typically done at around the 20 week mark. With as much of a surprise as the pregnancy itself was, we don’t want any more surprises.

The sonogram blew me away. The days of the nondescript blob are over, we can see a fully formed baby with arms, fingers, toes, and even the vertebrae on the spinal column. The baby moved around and even crossed its feet while we were watching.

At 13 weeks and 5 days, Eilene is showing a bit!

week 11

Today marks the first day of week 11, and coincidentally the second in-the-midst-of-pregnancy doctor’s visit.

We just went to the baby doctor and heard the heartbeat. It sounds like an industrial fan. No sonogram today, though.

Everyone has their oddball criteria for whether it will be a boy or girl, according to everything from frequency of vomiting to proliferation of acne. Apparently boys’ heartbeats are slower and girls’ are faster, so it’s likely according to non-actual-genital criteria number 20293883 that we are having a girl.
