On Saturday we took our all-day childbirth class. We got to watch a C-section video, and talked about tears in the perineum, spinal epidurals, and a host of other cringeworthy topics. The class in total was extremely informative, and took a lot of the fear out of the process. We toured the hospital where Eilene will be giving birth, and scoped out the private birthing and recovery rooms.
I didn’t realize until the day of the class how soon the baby will be coming. The due date is technically Oct 31, but Eilene will be at 36 weeks this Thursday. Any time after that is fair game. We met a ton of people who gave birth 2-3 weeks before their due date.
On Sunday, Eilene’s sister and brother-in-law came over to help move furniture, since Eilene can’t be my moving partner at the moment. We were able to completely move into the master bedroom, and we’re very pleased with how it looks. I was able to score some dressers that match the bed, and empty the closets for our clothes. There is nothing on the walls, which we will remedy at some point.
We moved the crib into Liam’s room, and I was also able to start the beginnings of the prep work. If I keep the momentum up, I should be able to start painting this week.

This is what we see when we pull into the driveway. All six dogs, ready for dinner.
The young beagle has torn the shit out of the left side of the privacy screen on the gate. We bought another one and it awaits free time for installation.
We added a sixth dog a few months ago, Mama Bear. She’s the black one in the middle with her tongue hanging all the way out. We found her abandoned on the side of I-30, and got her a bunch of vet care and deworming to get her back up to snuff.
All the dogs are complete love machines, we don’t have a ton of problems with misbehavior, though the beagle likes to pull the bedsheets out the dog door and dance around the yard underneath them.

Pressure has really started to build. We’re really getting down to the wire, the due date is in a month and I have this sneaking suspicion he’s going to be early. If for no other reason, than Eilene is sick of being pregnant and will will him out of her.
We finally finished painting the master bedroom and are going to move in this weekend, and start painting the baby’s room. It’s hard to see in the photo, but for the master we chose a light grey, keeping the ceiling and trim stark white.
Our friends and family have really come through with help on baby expenses. Eilene had a shower, they’re throwing me a shower at work, Eilene’s dad bought the crib, and my mom bought the stroller and car seat.

Eilene has taken photos of all the odds and ends and adorable clothes, and I put them in a flickr set here. I’m very partial to Pooh and Baby Snoopy.

In theory, what should have happened this weekend was us moving our bed and furniture into our newly painted bedroom and beginning to paint the baby’s room.
In actuality, what happened this weekend was me in bed and on the couch for 48 hours with the flu, downing the beginnings of a Z-Pack while Eilene rehinged and painted the doors.
Balls.

We picked up the crib yesterday after work, and Eilene was obsessed with putting it together. So at 8pm last night because I am supportive and awesome*, I was putting a crib together. It turned out great, and we’re really pleased with it. Now if I could only finish painting the bedrooms, we’d be set.
[* That's a total lie, I hemmed and hawed and disagreed and bitched about bedtime until she threatened to put it together herself, at which point I caved.]
